First Edition. The first text devoted to manangement science, spreadsheet engineering, and modeling craft. An accompanying CD contained student versions of Premium Solver, Crystal Ball, and the Sensitivity Toolkit.
Second Edition. Compatible with Excel 2003. In response to surveys of the market, we moved to shorter chapters: separate chapters on data analysis, regression, and forecasting; four chapters on optimization; two chapters on simulation. We also added chapters on Excel skills and enlarged the set of exercises. The accompanying software expanded to include TreePlan and Spreadsheet Professional.
Update Edition. Compatible with Excel 2007. Most of the changes occurred in the chapters on Excel skills and data analysis. Some updates of the accompanying software were also needed. However, two students in a course, one working with the Second Edition and Excel 2003, and the other working with the Update Edition and Excel 2007, could learn the same skills. No CD came with the book; software was downloaded.
Third Edition. Compatible with Excel 2010. We converted to Risk Solver Platform for Education, replacing four separate software tools used in previous editions: the Sensitivity Toolkit, Premium Solver, Tree Plan, and Crystal Ball, thus combining their capabilities in one integrated piece of software. To exploit its capabilities fully, we added a new chapter on the evolutionary solver and substantially revised coverage of optimization in simulation. More information about the Third Edition.
